Abigail Ahern’s home – part 3

We’re movin’ up one floor today for the third installment of our tour of the fantabulous home of Abigail Ahern. During the design class that I attended along with about ten other (very nice) people, the question on everyone’s lips was why, oh, why was the ceiling in the Abigail’s studio still white? The answer she gave was honest: We all make mistakes sometimes! The thing is to learn from your decorating mistakes and then boldly move onwards. Wise words from a wise woman! I’ve added comments underneath each picture to tell you a bit more about the studio and salon.

Tomorrow we’re going bed, bath and beyond – so stay tuned!

PS: Did you know that Interiorator also has a Facebook page?

All pictures by Patrick Kooiman / Interiorator.

So, here you see the white ceiling situation. It. Does. Not. Work. But Abigail promised she’s going to be painting it out grey as soon as she finds the time. We all make mistakes, she added. All is forgiven, Abigail. Notice by the way the limited color palette – it really makes that blue vase stand out.

Who is that man in the picture? If you know, please tell me in the comments section. He looks a bit like Putin, doesn’t he? Anyway – if you go dark, don’t forget that you have to paint the radiators as well.

Here you can see the difference between the white ceiling in the studio and the grey ceiling in the living room. The white ceiling creates way to much contrast while the grey ceiling makes the place look so much more expensive.

Poodle lamp Abigail Ahern

Don’t you just love that poodle lamp? You can buy it online! PS: My birthday is July 31.

If you use mirrors, make sure that you have something interesting reflecting back into it. In this case, it’s a bookcase. You can buy the zebra rug in Abigail’s webshop, by the way.

Time to walk towards the salon. Once again: White ceiling in the studio = bleh! Painted out ceiling in salon = yeah! Love the Seventies lampshade by the way!

Chandelier dark ceiling

Drama Queen Abby! This beautiful chandelier looks a trillion per cent better hung from a dark grey ceiling.

Abigail Ahern desk

Art hanging on the wall and art standing on the desk – notice how Abigail layers her art. Oh and that blue bit on the bottom left of the picture is my bag – which I forgot to take with me when we went to Abigail’s store after the class was over (classic Patrick Kooiman!)

Layers, layers, layers. You can create an interesting tablescape using nothing more than coffee table books.

Straw lamp

Decorating perfection – especially the re-upholstered chair and that weird table lamp. Sigh.

Abigail Ahern's home - part 3

Lots of lamps, lots of texture!

Don’t know what to say – except that I love it!
