Surer after Tal R that this dreamer should be a doer

If there is one thing nagging at the back of my mind about writing an interior design and art blog, is that it’s never about me. Wait, let me rephrase that. It is about me, of course – I am fortunate enough to do see beautiful things, go to inspiring places and see the work of some of the most creative people on the planet. And that, in a nutshell, is exactly why I left the Academy of Tal R exhibition at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen surer that I need to start creating things myself.

I find myself wandering off from time to time to check out my local art school’s webpage. Would I be good enough? Would I have enough time? Then again, if you had told me ten years ago that I would be releasing an international book about interior design in 2018, I never would have believed you. It doesn’t hurt to dream big. If that is the only life lesson I can pass on to you, then I’m a happy man. I don’t need millions of followers or brands banging at my front door – all I want is to share what I find beautiful in this world.

Case in point: Tal R! This artist’s work is every bit as colorful and overwhelming as I would like my work to be one day. As I took in his work last Boxing Day, there was one question that I kept asking myself: If can manage to go from square one in 2009 to publishing a book in 2018, could I start something similar this year and end up an artist in 2027? Time to stop dreaming and start doing.

If you want to find out more about Tal R, this interview on Collectors Agenda is a good place to start. The Academy of Tal R at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen closes on 21 January, 2018 – but you can also check out the special video the museum has made.

It’s always tricky to take a photo of a painting if you don’t have any context. Lucky for me, these two women looked just perfect as they took in one of Tal R’s paintings.

This room at the Tal R exhibition got me particularly excited – so many colors and visual ideas to check out.

Apparently, Tal R also dabbles in furniture design. I wouldn’t mind having this sofa in my living room!

Lightbulb moment!

Another room at the Academy of Tal R featured the artist’s sculptures.

Collage is always a good way to get my creative juices flowing! This work, called Lords of Kolbojnik, was one of my favorites.
